The Old TownLocation: Old Town
The launch of The Old Town in Downtown Dubai adds a reliable Arabic feature to one of the world’s most converse of developments. Much has been made about the details and technological advancements that have been involved in projects such as the Burj Dubai tower and the Dubai Mall, both will be structures of barely credible importance and significance – but Emaar’s knowledge and experience in regional development has seen them focus as much effort on creating a culturally reliable to the project.
The Old Town is a combination of low-rise three-storey apartment buildings and mid-rise towers with penthouses, and offers a counterpoint to the sharply modern style of most of Burj Dubai, the heart of emerging Downtown district.
The look draws on the Al-Bastakia neighbourhood of Bur Dubai and the residences of Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum and Mohammed Shareef Boukash with textures that reflect the gypsum, clay or sarjool plastering used in the early 20th century. Earthy natural tones reflect the surrounding landscape.
Terraces, balconies, parapets (waresh), pergolas, recesses and niches are signature features of the style, which is given further emphasis by the elegant window and door openings.
Residents will live in one of six quarters, Yansoon, Reehan, Miska, Zaafaran, Zanzabeel, or Kamoon.
