The mega-event, Expo 2020 Dubai, is finally approaching. It’s just a few days away now. Expected to have a big impact on Dubai’s tourism and real estate sector, the biggest exhibition in the world will have participants and attendees from all over the world. The planning for this event started way back in 2013 when Dubai was appointed as the host of the 2020 edition.
Let’s find out everything about Expo 2020 Dubai and what it entails:
Expo 2020 marks the latest edition of the World Expo series that commenced in 1851. The first event in this series was called the Great Exhibition. It was held in London. The most recent event took place in Milan in 2015, and Osaka is going to host the next expo in 2025.
It is a unique exhibition as it invites various nations, with each country geared to providing solutions for the pressing matters the world is facing. Furthermore, a host of engaging, immersive and interactive activities are planned for the attendees.
Expo 2020 Dubai happens to be the first such event to take place in the Middle East region. It is expected to welcome around 25 million visitors throughout its six-month run, from October 1st 2021 to March 31st 2022. The expo site spans over an area of 4.38 square kilometres.
The expo 2020 site is located in the Dubai South district. It lies close to Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai International Airport and various other residential communities in the emirate. The new ‘Dubai Metro Route 2020’ is expected to transport 46000 visitors per hour from Dubai Marina to the expo site in just 16.
Those seeking residential options around the expo site can choose hotels or short-term rental options in Dubai Investment Park, Al Furjan, Dubai South, Dubai Motor City, and Dubai Sports City.
Ideally, the name should be Expo 2021, since it is taking place in this year. The event, however, was actually slated to take place last year, i.e. in 2020. However, the pandemic pushed the launch of this event. Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 worldwide and travel restrictions, it was postponed and is now finally kicking off in the next month.
Being one of the most anticipated events globally, expo 2020 is expected to have a huge impact on Dubai’s economy and its different sectors. Experts believe that there will be a growth of up to $40 billion in the emirate’s economy, and as many as 277,000 jobs will be created.
Real estate and tourism are two major sectors that will benefit from this exhibition. The areas located in close proximity to the expo site are expected to produce better rental yields. Enquiries for apartments for rent in these areas are received by property portals, including Provident Estate. Other than that, major landmarks and tourist areas in and around the emirate will receive more footfalls during the exhibition tenure.
It will be mandatory for every participant and visitor to strictly adhere to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines. Wearing a mask at all times and maintaining a social distance of minimum two metres will be compulsory. Furthermore, the site will have hand sanitisers available at multiple spots. The staff will use thermal devices to identify potential COVID-19 carriers among guests.
Preparations are in full swing for this mega event. So, if you live in Dubai or are planning to visit the emirate during the next six months, make sure to pay a visit to the expo 2020 site and see the world coming together in perfect harmony.
