Dubai RTA and Shamal Holding to Upgrade Access Roads to Dubai Harbour

February 07, 2024

As the city evolves, so must its infrastructure. In the heart of urban expansion, a groundbreaking project is set to redefine connectivity between two major developments in Dubai. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled its ambitious plan to construct a 1.5 km long bridge to upgrade entry/exit points to Dubai Harbour.

This bridge will potentially reduce travel time and improve traffic flow. Here are all the details about the newly announced Dubai Harbour road upgrade.

About the New Bridge Project

Under the supervision of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, RTA has signed a strategic agreement with Shamal Holding, owner and curator of Dubai Harbour, to enhance road infrastructure leading to the community. The upgrade plan aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Key Features of the 1.5 km Long Bridge

The primary objective of the Dubai Harbour new project is to reduce travel time to the bustling seafront district. Currently, the journey takes approximately 12 minutes, but with the completion of the new Dubai bridge, it is expected to be reduced to 3 minutes.

  • Length: 1.5 km
  • Capacity: Up to 6,000 vehicles per hour (both directions)
  • Lanes: 2 in each direction
  • Start Point: Intersection No. 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road (near the American University in Dubai)
  • End Point: Dubai Harbour Street
  • Route: Through the intersection of Al Naseem Street and Al Falak Street

Beyond the bridge itself, the project includes surface improvements to four key intersections:

  1. Intersection No. 5 on Sheikh Zayed Road
  2. Al Falak Street and Al Naseem Street
  3. King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and Al Naseem Street
  4. King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street and Dubai Harbour Street

These enhancements will streamline entry and exit points, minimize congestion, and ensure smoother traffic flow into the harbour district.

Strategic Collaboration for a Brighter Future

The entry/exit points for the Dubai Harbour project resulted in a strategic partnership between RTA and Shamal Holding Dubai development, a prominent investment firm managing a diverse portfolio of investments and premium assets.

Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer at Shamal Holding, expressed delight at collaborating with RTA Dubai infrastructure project. He highlighted the project's significance in the overall development of the Dubai Harbour district, emphasizing the commitment to creating a well-integrated community that prioritizes the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
