Explore SignatureDubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled the AED 1.5 billion Al Fay Street Development Project, a transformative infrastructure investment to enhance urban connectivity and ease traffic across the emirate. Extending from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road, the project includes upgrades to five key intersections, 13.5 kilometers of bridges, and 12.9 kilometers of roads. This ambitious initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to sustainable growth and urban mobility enhancement.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA, emphasized the significance of this project, stating: “The Al Fay Street Development Project is a vital infrastructure initiative that will establish a new east-west corridor in Dubai’s road network. It will enhance connectivity between major roads, particularly from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road, and ease traffic flow across key residential and commercial zones”
The Al Fay Street Development Project directly supports Dubai’s population and urban expansion, serving areas such as Dubai Sports City, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Village Circle, and Jumeirah Golf Estates. By increasing capacity to accommodate 64,400 vehicles per hour, the project will reduce congestion and improve access for more than 600,000 residents and visitors in these key residential and commercial zones.
At the intersection of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, a two-lane bridge spanning 1,255 meters will be constructed to accommodate left-turn traffic from Deira towards Al Fay Street and Emirates Road, with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour. The project also includes the expansion of service roads in both directions to improve traffic flow. Additionally, two bridges with two lanes each, spanning 2,040 meters and handling 6,400 vehicles per hour, will provide direct access to and from Jumeirah Village Circle, linking it with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
A 960-meter, four-lane bridge will be built at the roundabout between Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City, accommodating 14,400 vehicles per hour. The existing roundabout will be converted into a signal-controlled surface intersection to handle traffic volumes efficiently. A 780-meter grade-separated service road with two lanes will also be constructed, providing a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour to facilitate traffic flow from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road.
A new three-lane bridge in each direction will span 1,400 meters at Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, accommodating 9,600 vehicles per hour. Additionally, a five-lane bridge on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be built, spanning 1,400 meters with a capacity of 9,000 vehicles per hour. Two grade-separated service roads with three lanes each, spanning 1,400 meters, will further enhance left-turn movements, handling a combined capacity of 9,600 vehicles per hour.
A two-lane bridge will be constructed at the intersection of Al Fay Street and Emirates Road to enable left-turn traffic from Al Fay Street towards Al Awir, Al Khawaneej, Sharjah, and the northern Emirates. This bridge will span 1,000 meters and have a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour, significantly improving regional connectivity and reducing travel times.
Two two-lane bridges spanning 2,250 meters will provide direct access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City. These bridges will have a combined capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour, streamlining connectivity between key residential and commercial areas.
As an extension of Al Khail Road, the project strengthens the road network by enabling direct movement between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. This urban mobility enhancement will streamline traffic and reduce travel times across the city’s key districts, supporting Dubai’s infrastructure ambitions.
